Today I'm sharing our lunchbox favorites! With two kiddos in school I've learned which lunchbox accessories are a hit with both the kids and me.
For hot items I love this Lunchbots thermos. To keep stuff warm I like to add boiling water to the thermos while I'm prepping the lunch (at least 5 mins). Then pour out and add the food. If adding crispy foods (ex. chicken nuggets) then line bottom with a paper towel.
For Kinder we really enjoyed using the Yumbox tapas, but I wanted to move to something stainless steel this year. We made the switch to the Planetbox Rover. So far my son and I are both loving it. He can open and close it easily and there's enough room for a day of food. I also love the Lunchbots trio for smaller meals or snacks on the go.
This year I've been including these joke cards some days and my first grader really enjoys sharing the jokes with his friends. I also like these little animal pics for picking up little pieces of food (ex. cut melon), plus they add some fun. One of my most used tools is this sandwich sealer for making homemade "uncrustables". I prefer the square shaoe as it creates less waste. (Tip: save the crusts for making french toast bakes). I love to make a big batch of "uncrustables" from an entire loaf of bread and then pop in the freezer for wasy lunch packing. These mini cutters are also used a ton. I've had them for almost 4 years and they've held up really well. I love them for cutting out cheese or meat for "lunchables" or cutting shapes out of cucumbers.
Some of my favorite prep ahead of time foods are:
hard boiled eggs
cut veggies (especially peppers and cucumber)
cut fruit (apple slices, berries and melon)
A few recipes that were a hit lately:
energy balls
cottage cheese and blueberry muffins
breakfast cookies
