Visiting Vancouver with Kids

Looking for a fun (and beautiful) change of scenery? Ready for a little road trip with the kiddos? Visit Vancouver, British Columbia!

I may be biased (I'm Canadian) - but Vancouver is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I grew up in Vancouver, and after moving to Seattle two years ago, I make the visit home as frequently as I can. It's fun for our family to take the little one up there and see the sights like I did as a child.

Things to see and do in Vancouver:

  • Totems Poles (in Stanley Park)

  • Aquarium

  • Stanley Park

  • Granville Island Kids Market

  • Science World

  • Kitsilano Beach

  • White Rock

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge

  • Pacific Spirit Regional Park

  • Cypress Mountain (skiing, tubing and hiking)

  • VanDusen Botanical Gardens

  • Grouse Mountain Skyride

  • Gastown

  • The Roundhouse (community center and train museum)

  • Coal Harbor sea wall (sit and watch the float planes)

  • Vancouver Public Library

  • Aquabus (take the 20minute tour around False Creek on this little public transit boat) This was our kiddos favourite!

  • Yaletown Brewery (very kid friendly)

Make time to visit the best viewpoint of Vancouver, Cypress View Point. On a clear day, this scenic drive leads to one of the best lookouts of the city. Get directions here.

Documents needed to cross the border:

  • Minor children 15 and under travelling by land or by sea may enter Canada with a valid passport or their U.S. or Canadian birth certificate.

  • We strongly recommend that children travelling across the border carry a consent letter proving they have permission to travel from every person with the legal right to make major decisions on their behalf, if that person is not accompanying the children on the trip. For example, children travelling alone, with groups or with only one custodial parent should travel with a consent letter.

  • Adults must have their passport

Happy Travels! Eh?
