As a parent to three young children, I want to ensure that I am doing everything in my power to celebrate diversity and expose them to people and experiences from different backgrounds. I want to ensure that we talk about racism, privilege and diversity. I am continuously learning and evolving as a parent, and wish the same for my children. We value open discussions and community involvement. Since my family all loves reading books, I thought this would be a perfect time to ensure that our book collection includes books that feature people of color and families of all kinds. It took some time to finally be able to order some of these, because they were sold out (which is amazing), so be sure to check other book stores and online retailers frequently for restocks. Our first two books arrived today, and I'm excited to receive the rest!

This week, my kids are making Black Lives Matters signs and are getting together with their friends to walk with them and post them in our neighborhood. There is a stretch of road that the community is looking to fill with signs. It's a great sight to see when driving along the road, and a great way to involve kids in the movement. We just received our Crayola multicultural markers in the mail as well. I feel this are a great tool to learn through play and open up dialogue for our children to discuss Black Lives Matters and diversity issues. Small steps can make big changes!
